How we can help you

The Group offers observed runs to Associates on a one-to-one basis in their own cars. Your driving skills and attitude to all aspects of motoring and road use will be closely monitored by an Observer, (a full Group member who has already passed the advanced driving test). Your Observer, (who is a volunteer), will give you practical guidance, constructive advice, and support to help you to pass the advanced test.

The dates, times, and meeting places for your observed runs are arranged directly with your Observer.

The IAM have developed a standardised National Standard which has led to a topic led "Observed Run" Programme of 6-7 drives to which we should all be adhering. This Standard has had consequences for Observers with particular reference to training and qualification, status and retention of status, and Group Observers now require re-assessment every three years.

The basis for the Advanced Driving standard is RoadCraft and the use of 'the system' of car control.

Drive In Centre

We also run a "Drive In Centre" the first Sunday of every month, from 10 am – 12 noon, (not January). The centre is an opportunity for unallocated associates to get some observed drives in, associates to get more practice or the opinion of another Observer, as well as members and observers alike to get their driving assessed.
